Internet Fraud, Consumer Fraud, Securities Fraud and Lawyers by State

         Fraud typically includes any deception, false statement, false pretense, false promise or misrepresentation made in order to induce a purchase or other act.   Each state defines fraud differently, so you should consult with a lawyer who practices within your state if you may be the victim of  fraud and want to pursue your legal remedies.  Since attorneys  may specialize in consumer fraud, internet fraud or securities fraud, it is useful to understand which categories apply to your situation.

Internet Fraud: Internet Fraud is fraud conducted on the internet--typically through emails, websites, message boards or chat rooms.  Examples of common internet frauds include: advance fee scams, lottery scams, check clearing scams and phishing.

Consumer Fraud: Consumer Fraud is a type of fraud made by a seller or advertiser of merchandise.  This would be the case if you purchased goods that were falsely advertised.

Securities Fraud: Securities Fraud is fraud relating to the purchase and sale of stock or other securities.
